Alliance Center Resources

The North Central Texas College (NCTC) Library System offers a diversity of discipline-specific resources for students at the Alliance Instructional Center.

Catalog Resources. Alliance Instructional Center students will have access to the NCTC Library System, which provides over 75,000volumes of information on various topics in print, electronic, and audio-visual formats. Intralibrary loan services are available between each NCTC campus site to facilitate the use of these materials. Intralibrary online requests can be placed via the NCTC library’s online catalog (available through the library’s website).

Interlibrary Loan and Texshare. The NCTC library system participates in the statewide TexShare resource-sharing initiative, primarily funded by the Texas State Library with supplemental funding by member libraries. If the NCTC Library System does not own needed items, Alliance Instructional Center students secure items from other libraries through an interlibrary loan request and Texshare.  Students must request a Texshare card by presenting a photo ID at any NCTC campus library.

Electronic Databases. NCTC participation authorizes the Alliance Instructional Center students to access electronic databases on various topics related to certificate programs and the Associate of Applied Science degree. Students have access to over 65 electronic databases, and all of the electronic resources to which NCTC subscribes are available for use remotely and on NCTC campuses. On-campus and remote access to the databases is provided through One Login and is accessible to All NCTC students, including those at the Alliance Instructional Center, via their NCTC student IDs.

Library Services. The Tutorials and Guides web page provides Alliance Instructional Center students with online instructions, primarily in video format, on how to use various library services, including the library catalog, subscription databases, research strategies, and how to request an interlibrary loan. In addition, all NCTC students have access to the online library Instruction Tutorial through the online learning management system Canvas. The tutorial discusses NCTC library services and database instruction; this tutorial is especially useful for students who cannot or choose not to visit an NCTC campus.

Alliance Instructional Center students may confer with a librarian on another campus by visiting that campus or contacting a librarian via email or telephone, or requesting an appointment in Upswing, found in OneLogin. Alliance Instructional Center students may submit an online request for email reference assistance from an NCTC Librarian by clicking on Ask a Librarian.
